CLarksburg State Park Pond Loop

1-2 Hours, Easy

$40 per Person

This is an easy, pleasant one. I know a secret trailhead, so you can avoid the $5 parking fees ($20 if you have out of state plates!!). As a result of this extra section that connects to the main loop, it’s a bit longer than the hike published on All Trails, coming in at around 1.5 hours. The trail has a couple tricky spots to navigate, so you may appreciate a guide. Also, there’s a missing bridge and the stream crossing can be difficult, but I can help get us across.

We’ll wander around Mauserts Pond, so this one’s for you if you’re not in the mood for a climb—it’s perfect for a morning or evening constitutional. You can take it easy and not work up a sweat, but just zone out under the forest canopy, let your mind wander, or catch sight of the pond and the windmilled ridge in the background. Oh, and if you’re feeling up for it at the end of the hike you can take a dip in the little swimming area (there’s bathrooms for changing right there). Other highlights include planked sections, a few bogs, lovely views from the pond. Great out-of-the way spot that is actually very convenient to North Adams/Williamstown—once you know it you’ll be glad to have it in your repertoire.
