The Story of the Tie-Dyed Trail Guide
Hey there! I’m Jeff, aka the Tie-Dyed Trail Guide. Back in 2019 I was living in DC trying to get out of academia. I realized that it wasn’t books and scholarship that invigorated my days but rather my daily hikes through Rock Creek Park, an idyllic oasis in the city. This was what I most looked forward to: the cool air beneath the canopy, the quiet of the forest, the kaleidoscope of colors, the rushing rapids of the creek, the birds, deer, and fish. It hit me that it was this vitalizing experience of “forest bathing”—total sensory immersion in the world of nature—that I wanted to share with people. So that summer I launched my first guided hiking experience on the Airbnb Experience platform, The Wooded Trails of Rock Creek Park. The success of that hike—4.97 rating and dozens of happy hikers—confirmed this new path for me: I’d be a trail guide!
In 2021 fate and design took me to North Adams, Massachusetts, a hikers paradise situated in the Northern Berkshire Mountains where the trails are unending and the views are simply sublime—an ideal place for a trail guide. I’ve been learning the trails for a few years now, and I’m ready to share the best of my picks with you!
You can find my hiking experiences here on www.tiedyedguide.com or over on Airbnb Experiences. You can also find me on Instagram @tiedyedguide.
In 2022 I launched my first Berkshire hike— “Hike up Ragged Mountain Through an Abandoned Ski Area”—in the scenic Greylock Glen of Adams, MA, in the shadow of Mighty Mount Greylock, the Beast Of The Berkshires.
In 2024 I rebranded the Airbnb hike to the highly reviewed “Customized Greylock Hike”, which is designed to suit the level of your group.
For Winter ‘25/’25 I’m going with Winter Wonderland Hike where I help hikers experience the magic of being outside in the winter in beautiful bright snow!
Why TIE-DYED Guide?
Inspired by my fave era, the 1960s with its freewheeling hippies, trippy colors, and psychedelic rock ‘n roll, I adopted the Tie-Dyed Trail Guide handle. In this world of screen overload, I’m psyched to help get folks out in nature away from the bustle.
I offer a growing variety of local favorites and off-the-beaten path adventures. Whether you’re freeing yourself from the city for a weekend or trying to break in some new hiking boots, let’s go on a hike!
